Why Participate In Research?

Because you get to try — very safely, confidentially, + with constant supervision by top doctors — the absolute newest + best therapies + procedures for your particular concerns.

At VSRC, research projects + clinical studies are regularly ongoing for products + procedures for (and this is just a sampling)

  • Acne, chicken skin, shaving/waxing bumps, + other types of folliculitis
  • Ageing (wrinkles, sagging, etc.), firming, tightening
  • Hair growth or removal
  • Laser + other phototherapies
  • Lightening, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, + other pigmentation disorders
  • Psoriasis, vitiligo, atopic dermatitis, herpes + other diseases
  • Scars, stretch marks
  • Slimming, shaving, contouring

Is it scary? Not if THANK YOU! is the new slang for fear.

Far from scary, most of our participating patients (and there have been many, many of them over our 20+ years of clinical studies) are grateful for the experience. Why? Because they can see impressive results for — at times even severe or chronic — skin problems … that may be impossible to match with old or currently available treatment options

This is why many of our patients are repeat-participants — they ask us to keep them in mind for future research projects that may be applicable to them.

Other things to know:

  • You are not subjected to “raw”, unknown formulations or procedures. Most things you’d be trying are close-to-final versions of new technologies that have already passed stringent safety standards. These studies are normally done to justify additional claims that a company needs for registering the product with a new country’s FDA
So it isn’t safety that’s being tested, but the validity of a new claim or the product’s or procedure’s performance versus another, or nothing at all: the clinical study could be done simply to help a company prepare a paper for a dermatological meeting
  • You’re not forced to do anything you don’t want to do. We explain all that’s expected of you + any risks that could be involved. It’s so simple we hardly get anyone who backs out of a study … but you’re certainly free to do so
  • For the entire duration of the study — as well as after its completion — you are closely monitored by a slew of highly-trained dermatologists, nurses, a research leader (usually a top dermatologist), + specially-trained aides
  • We’re not new at this. See Expert Care below

Expert Care …

When you participate in research projects at VSRC you’re participating in a safe, successful, innovative process — that we’ve been doing + constantly perfecting for over 20 years — watched over by expert eyes

Since the early 1970s, VSRC, through our founding dermatologist + dermatopathologist, Dr. Verallo-Rowell, VSRC has been a pioneer researcher in the fields of cosmetic + clinical dermatology. Through VSRC, Dr. Verallo-Rowell has conducted multiple clinical trials for companies such as (to name a few) Abbott, Galderma, Leo Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer, Roche, Schering AG, Schering-Plough, + Wyeth, many of which she +/or her dermatology residents have presented in international dermatological symposia.

VSRC research has helped make our founder + medical director a well-published, sought-after speaker + educator in her fields of dermatology, dermatopathology, + applied cosmetic dermatology. A frequent lecturer at professional meetings, she regularly publishes scientific papers at peer-reviewed journals and in her own books on skin + health.

Dr. Verallo-Rowell performs clinical research on cosmetic ingredients, therapies, lasers + pharmaceuticals through her own research protocols, + performs multiple clinical trials annually. At VSRC, she performs + oversees our clinical trials along with other highly-qualified dermatologists, microbiologists, pharmacists, chemists, statisticians + our specially-trained medical + research staff.

Types of Participation

There are two types of research participation. With Recruited Participation, you let us know that you may be interested in participating in research projects related to your particular concern. Should an appropriate project come up, we would contact you for a screening, + ask you if you would like to join in. Recruited participation can entail a stipend + follow-up visits.

With Opportunistic Participation, you luckily “happen upon” an ongoing study. For example, if you physician recommends a certain laser procedure + informs you that there’s an ongoing study, you may be able to avail of the treatment for a significant discount

If you would like to be considered for future studies or clinical trials, please email us at info@vmvskincentre.com, click AskVSRC at the upper right portion of this page or complete this downloadable form + submit it to a VSRC representative.
