VSRC Research Mentorship Program
Mentors
As a successful dermatologist, educator, researcher, or clinician, the international dermatological
community already considers you a “Mentor” in one way or another. As a Mentor, you exemplify
the teacher / researcher / role model who, having done all these in an exemplary fashion,
are willing to help mould the next generation of dermatology leaders. With your wisdom and
experience, you can be of immense value to your Mentee as s/he undergoes similar trials you
overcame in moving upwards to the next level. While the focus in one-on-one mentoring is
mainly on the Mentee’s growth, the synergy often leads mentors to consider the relationship as
beneficial to themselves as they enjoy their own growth in new dimensions: personal and
dermatological or professional.
Your VSRC Mentee is blessed by the vision and drive to become a researcher, but has never
had the opportunity to work with Mentors such as yourself. With a Mentor, the Mentee is eager to
subject her/himself to your experienced gaze and input. As a Mentor, you are not expected
answer your Mentee’s problems but to guide her/him to discover the answers, or even to merely
be in this relationship as s/he soaks up your way of thinking. The VSRC Mentorship is designed
to make the mentoring experience as rewarding as possible, with as minimal effort as possible,
for both of you.
Current VSRC Mentors include editors of international dermatology journals, published speakers,
researchers, and educators from clinics, hospitals and universities in New York, Detroit,
Texas + Paris.
